Serial killer, Dexter Morgan, is also on the Miami police force as a blood genius. He only kills bad guys who have gotten away with murder and mayhem. For whatever reason the police couldn't put someone away, Dexter takes it upon himself to "help out". He is a bit of a nutjob but IMHO he is making Miami a safer place to live by culling the murders and sexual criminals off the streets.

When the television series was first advertised, I must admit that while I was a tad curious, I wasn't particularly keen on this idea of a man channelling his inner serial killer to eliminate bad guys. I didn't even bother adding to my TBR but then I spotted it at a street library and I thought, why not - also note, the hype has sailed a long time ago.

It was nice to read this novel after watching the TV series on Showtime. It helped to picture the characters easier (though minor differences in characters...Deb is *gasp* likeable) and made the story even more enjoyable. I think the book would have been great if I read it first then watched the series but either way I was "suprised" with the killer.

This is the first book in the Dexter series. I've watched a few seasons of the show and decided to read the books. I think the show follows the book for the most part.
I loved this book and feel it gives a better look at Dexter and how he sees things. I was surprised with the end of the book.
