This book is a flawless, breath taking read. An absolute must read for historic fiction fans. There is a little something in this book for everyone....romance, time travel, history, action, adventure....everything. This book is outstanding. It is a little long but don't let the length fool you....and when I was done reading I found myself feeling like I had just read an epic adventure but it never one drug, felt boring, or too long. Exquisite!

I started reading the Outlander series when it was first released in 1991 and from the first page I was immersed in this great time travel story. Granted the books in the series are huge but the writing is such that the length of the book passes into insignificance as the pages turn. What could be better in a novel than standing stones, castles and men in kilts?? Once Claire is transported back to 1700's England/Scotland she finds herself in a world that she knew from the history books and she i ...more

Much of the violence, particularly against women, seeemed excessive to me. Just too much detail about wounds and sexual assault.
