I'm glad I changed my mind about reading this. Russian literature was not attractive to me, but I found myself really getting into the politics even more than the people. The story itself is rather like a soap opera, pleasant enough to keep you reading, but without much direction. I personally enjoyed the character of Levin the most. I found his thinking interesting and it will probably lead me to further reading about Russian history. The other characters left me somewhat lukewarm, but at nearl ...more

Magnificent literary work!

1863. Has had a special interest to me since using a selection for declamation in high school. The recent P&V translation seems very good. I also have the CDs in an earlier translation. Participated in an online discussion February-March 2008, using the CDs and still another translation.

Spectacular. One of the great loves in my life along with Madame Bovary and Tess. I love these women; they stll live with me and I make love to them at night!
