Thoroughly enjoyable and slowly enveloping - what began as somewhat tedious for me gradually drew me in and I found myself entwined in the characters' lives. James writes so eloquently about relationships and human perception, and while he can come across as unnecessarily wordy, I have learned to appreciate his genius. While not as absorbing as Portrait of a Lady, I found this book surprising and rewarding. ...more
