Apparently, yes, it took me over two years to finish this book... while not one of my favorites, I can appreciate the plot and the characters. I have loved several Henry James novels, but this one felt tedious, verbose, and overly-descriptive to the point of being frustrating. At times it felt as if I was misunderstanding or misinterpreting entire sections because the actual points were mired in unnecessary loquacious explanations, but I did come away with general understanding of what was occur
