An allegory with overt moral themes and a lot of symbolism.

Hawthorne touches on some of his usual themes such as hypocrisy, sin, and outward appearances. Oh, and don’t forget that dislike of Puritanism. (“Scarlet Letter” I’m looking at you!)

It is full of references to the devil, witches, a snake staff!
But too many thee’s, thou’s, etc. I felt like I was being preached to. Maybe it’s just me; I’m from the Bible-belt South and I WAS always being preached to!!

But I have never worn a pink bow.
