Its thrilling, and dangerous, filled with action, dread, sadness, passion, love, and leaves you hanging at the end of this wonderful book. At first Katniss doesn't think much of Peeta Mellark; but he has always thought about her. Since he was little, he has had a crush on her, and now that she volunteers for her sister in the Hunger Games, she must keep up the act of love for sponsors and gifts in the arena. Quite unexpected. Of course I had seen the movie three times before I read the book but I was really suprised that I enjoyed this book. I'm normally not a fan of the dystopian, post apocalyptic type novels but I enjoyed this one. I wouldn't say that this is my favorite book by any stretch and I'm not a die hard hunger games fan but I can see what the hype is about. Teenage readers, girls specifically, are not stuck with a typical, boring mary sue protaganist that they are stuck with in every oth Quite unexpected. Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, is so much more than your typical Bella Swan. Although she does present herself as a normal girl, like everyone else, she has certain qualities that make her enjoyable and not boring or typical. Another thing I really liked about Katniss was that she was not whiny. She lives in a horrible place, has a bad hand dealt to her but she just deals with it. I also like the fact that you can relate to her. Katniss may be brave to take her sister's place in the hunger games but when I was reading I could tell at times that she regretted it. She showed true human emotion. She tried to be brave on the outside but she was screaming on the inside and you can really feel for her. I could really put myself in her position and feel the emotions she felt. I could feel her fear along with her. She was a believable character that was easy to relate to and who's shoes you could see yourself walking in.
As far as the boys go I have to say that I prefer Gale. Even though he wasn't present for a majority of the book I still really liked him better. To me Peeta was really fake. Too fake, he seemed to always have alterior motives, and like Katniss, I was questioning everything he did. He seemed like an attention seeker to me and I hated that. Gale on the other hand spoke his mind and wasn't fake in anything he said. He also seemed like he genuinely cared for Katniss and encouraged her more than Peeta did. I hope he takes up more of a role in Catching Fire.
For me The Hunger Games was a suprising one. I liked the plot, I liked the characters, I liked everything. I really can't complain about much. Normally I'd complain that a book needs more romance and is lacking in the love department and although The Hunger Games was not screaming with love it had a nice amount. I mean come on Katniss has her life and the lives of her family to worry about. Romance at this point seems like the last thing on any one's mind. ...more

okay after all the fuss about how it was amazing and all. i decided to see for myself...
and let me tell you this..the fuss was soo right..this book is absolutely amazing..it has everything a good book is required to have, cant hardly wait to get my hands on the next part...
