Death ain't what it used to be. "Altered Carbon" gets four stars for some of the unique concepts in it--the ability to transfer consciousness between bodies and extend life, if you can afford it.
But it's a convoluted plot. Some minor characters come and go, and I found myself thinking, "Who is that again?" Additional elements such as rigid gender roles, dehumanizing sex work, and smoking come across as antiquated in a setting a few hundred years in the future.
