What Members Thought

This is more of an important read than an enjoyable one. Shteyngart takes contemporary trends (omnipresent technology, hyper-consumerism, morphing expectations of privacy) to their logical and disconcerting near-future conclusions. "Super Sad True Love Story" made me want to hide under my bed until it's all over, something a book hasn't made me feel since "The Handmaid's Tale."

The best I can say for this is that it didn't quite live up to the awfulness that it promised about half-way through.
The first sixty pages were mildly amusing satire. The rest was just whining. There was a strong sense of wanting to say to the author, "Dude, your fly's open," cause he was revealing waaaaay too much ickiness about himself, but one got the sense that he had left his fly open on purpose.
