I don't really know where to begin on this one. I think a lot of it comes down to that the book simply tried to do too much in too few pages. We have Ash herself, the mythology of faerie, the mythology of the hunt, the battle between the greenwitches and the philosophers, Ash's mother's story, the prince's story. . .it's an awful lot of ground to cover. I enjoyed the direction of the story and that it was loosely based on Cinderella. The folklore and fairy tales in the story are interesting and it’s a nice touch. Little stories within a story. There was a lot of waiting and build up and “come on already” type emotion when reading it regarding the relationships and the visits Ash has/makes/goes to. They don’t seem to have as much meat as some of the other parts of the book. I was happy with the ending but not with how and the way it got there. Everything is summed up on one page, the last page, pretty much and that was very disappointing and made me feel a bit cheated. You read through all these feelings and thoughts Ash has and learn about Sidhean’s feelings and then there is Kaisa. I felt there should have been more about them giving me a sense of they ended happily ever after or at least content. (view spoiler) But what about Sidhean, I would have liked to know more about him and his world.(view spoiler) What confused me was the book goes on in detail about Ash’s mother’s herbal book and and how Ash was thinking how it was to help her? So I was waiting for a part where she was going to do a spell or experiment or something, anything but nothing came of it so why talk so much about it in detail and make it such a deal in the story? I have been meaning to read this book since it came out and only recently picked it up and read it. I was not disappointed.

While I consider it a light read, and wanted it to be as such, it does get deeper as the story folds. Admittingly, it takes a while to gear up and sometimes it does tend to drag, characterization could also be improved and there are a lot of descriptions- however, coming from a philosophy background it did not annoy me for the most part and instead reveled in it.
