No, the entire book is not about mean girlfriends. Thank goodness! But, because they don't know what Lexie really deals with, the things they do have unforseen consequences. Trigger warnings for rape and sexual assault. This may be seen as a big spoiler, but I look out for the more sensitive readers. Lexie is attacked by a ghost who forces her to relive his crimes against women. It isn't detailed, but it causes her to have nightmares and since the word is used, it's worth noting for readers sensitive to the subject. Lexie was left vulnerable due to one of the girlfriend's jealousy. She saw her have a "seizure" and left her there. Not knowing what it really was, doesn't mean she's excused, because leaving a person to seize and not seeking medical help is just as awful. And, no, not all the guys date mean girls. But the focus of this book is really on all relationships. Lexie's relationship with the guys. Them with each other, and branching out into dating around their lives with Lexie in it- a new variable. Her relationship with Dylan. Her relationship with her family. Bonds are formed and broken or fractured, and while a book about teens dating, in the middle of a paranormal series seems silly, the background is what matters. It's setting a stage, setting boundaries, setting down roots. It shows what each is willing to tolerate, not tolerate, and how they'll deal with it. The story did not disappoint. It continued on right where we left off and it was a smooth transition. The friendships are growing between all the friends and the FMC growing pains are kinda tough to read - but they're realistic. The storyline is great, the worldview expands a bit this book - I can't wait to keep reading.
