*sigh* How many time, how many times have we suffered through the death of a beloved character? How many times have we seen the character that seem to have become a part of us lose their life? How many times have we put ourselves through this very same torture and yet again turn to a new book with character that we'll grow to love even when it seems that our heart isn't capable of getting attached to anyone ever again? The gone series was beyond anything I've ever read. Sure I love Stephen King *sigh* How many time, how many times have we suffered through the death of a beloved character? How many times have we seen the character that seem to have become a part of us lose their life? How many times have we put ourselves through this very same torture and yet again turn to a new book with character that we'll grow to love even when it seems that our heart isn't capable of getting attached to anyone ever again? The gone series was beyond anything I've ever read. Sure I love Stephen King and George R.R Martin, but no were, nowhere did they even come close to the way Micheal Grant made me feel. Five stars, what do they even mean, for everything that we have read, and everything that we experienced is finally over and all we have to show for it is stars?? No.
I went in as a bored girl, not expecting to even like the book very much, and now here I stand, not knowing what to do with myself now that the FAYZ is over, for all the good it did to me, I might as well have been inside the FAYZ myself. As I started reading Gone, I expected myself to giggle at all the silly parts and the dumb instances, but not once could I find something that could be laughed at. I finished the first book with mingled feelings, not really understanding what I was getting myself into, just viewing it as a great book. And then, as I read all the other books in the series, the desperation, the strain, they were what made it so beautiful. I was afraid of Light coming out, because that would mean the end of the FAYZ. I didn't want that. Too many kids had dies already and in ways that were the farthest thing from convenient. But even with everything, even with the mutations and the altered laws, it was the outside world that felt alien.
But it was the endgame now, wasn't it? The long journey finally come to an end. I didn't want it to end. I didn't want the wall coming down. I didn't want the outside world to intrude. And that is probably the reason for the four-stars. The ending didn't satisfy me. How could kids who had seen and suffered so much, be content to just eat pizzas for the rest of their lives?? Everything seemed to go too smoothly, everything reaching a happy ending even when it was far from a happy ending. All the dearest characters that died. It was traumatic, especially for me as I really loved *_-_-_-_* (no I won't spoil it.) ((Just giving yourself up to Little Pete!! What were you thinking??))
Another thing that annoyed me was that there was such little Lanjit time, seeing as they are probably the most popular pairing. There wasn't even any mention of them together after the wall came down! The high point of this book for me was the blood and gore. Gaia doesn't bother cutting any corners when it comes to blood. The Final Fight, right from the point where the Gaia-attack starts was awesome. Somehow, this final book seemed rushed as well as drawn out at the same time. It was as if the important parts went by wayy to fast even as the slower, unimportant parts seemed to get too much time.
So, it's over. Nothing else to do, but search for another book to drive me insane and break my heart. ...more
