Not sure if I should give this a 2 or a 3. I agree with another reviewer who states that this book should have been written a few years later. Now it feels more like a therapy session for Jaycee.
I liked the beginning and of course I understand that she does not know exactly when things happened, and yes the book jumped around in a lot of places and I also get that. It is hard to recall every thing that happened in your past. Especially when every day is the same. What I don't get is that The cha ...more

I was really disliking the simplistic writing style and incomplete sentences; the book seemed to have been written by a child. Then it dawned on me that essentially she was a child, at least insofar as education was concerned. Kidnapped at age 11, Ms Dugard essentially had a fifth grade education. I give her full points for guts, as she doesn't mince around the most unpleasant aspects of her captivity, and I think she has written an honest account of her experiences. I decided to push aside my other reading and buy this book and read it. While this book is very good, it is VERY hard to read. Jaycee Dugard is VERY graphic in describing the abuse she suffered at the hands of Garrido. I had to stop reading and just take a break from it. If not for that, this book can easily be read in one sitting. This is a quick read, but she really gets the point across how miserable her life was with the Garridos, how sick her kidnapper was and how badly she wanted to go hom

Dugard was a surprisingly clear writer considering that her formal education was stopped at the time of her abduction, however, I still found the book lacking some essential element. There was something of a passivity in the writing and blunting of the emotions--or so I felt. Perhaps that is to be expected when one has experienced a trauma this severe. Jaycee's reactions were certainly easiler to understand than those of kidnap victim Colleen Stan (The Perfect Victim) who was an adult when she w

This wasn't a well written book, but that aside, what Jaycee Dugard has written about her life transcends the writing. It's unimaginable what this man did....for 18 years! This is every parents nightmare and to think he was on parole that whole time. I'm so happy this story has ended the way that it did.

I'm so glad this woman wrote a book.
