Considering the prolific nature of Austin murders of late 19th century, it's surprising how little the incidents are known today. While Jack the Ripper became a household name, Midnight Assassin's similar brutal attacks on women just a year prior became a footnote in history. I just cant give four stars to a book that never has its mystery solved, though that's no fault of the author. I learned a lot about Austin history, so that was good. I'd still very much recommend this to true crime fans.
