City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) in Q&A with Cassandra Clare

I love me some Cassandra Clare. Seriously. The hubby read the first trilogy of the The Mortal Instruments and was singularly unimpressed. He now refers to it as my smut. Which is funny because it has now become a little bit YA smut, Oh come on! Dirty Sexy Alley Scene people! Also, I joked on twitter about how I needed to use this line in my City of Lost Souls "Bitches be boinking". Anyhoots, one way or another I eat Cassie Clare goodness for breakfast and then I want it for lunch, dinner and des I love me some Cassandra Clare. Seriously. Anyhoots, one way or another I eat Cassie Clare goodness for breakfast and then I want it for lunch, dinner and desert too, because I cannot get enough, ever.

So when it came out in May, during the same two week period as Bitterblue, Insurgent, The Enchantress and many other MUST HAVE books, I made the astounding fiscal decision that I would not buy it immediately. I'm still not sure how I held out until a couple of weeks ago to buy it. It proved to be one of my most intense book buying hold outs ever. But a couple of weeks ago it went on 30% off at Chapters and I could hold out no longer. By about one chapter in I COULD NOT BELIEVE I had waited a couple of months to read this. It was fantastical, magical and full of the best kind of Cassie Clare goodness.

Where City of Fallen Angels suffered from just a smidgen too much Clary/Jace angst ( I have three previous books of that, I'm over it. Let's move on to someone else's angst), City of Lost Souls got all down and dirty, and evil to boot. I also liked how much more focus there was on all the relationships this time. Jordan and Maia, Simon and Isabelle, Magnus and Alec and not just Clary and Jace. But, speaking of Jace and Clary, I loved the sadistic threesome they had going on with Sebastian, talk about a new level of intrigue!

Between the intro of the Iron Sisters, the raising of both demons and angels, and Clary's ultimate betrayal of Jace, I found I just couldn't put City of Lost Souls down. And when I had to, you know, sleep or go back to work, or eat (all those annoying life things), I couldn't stop thinking about whatever just happened. Which is likely why, when I finished CoLS, I promptly picked up City of Bones and "casually" read two thirds of it before dragging myself away to read some of my towering piles of unread books. Oh Mortal Instruments, I promise to read all 6 of you cover to cover once all of it's out, though maybe I'll have to wait until the Infernal Devices is completed and make it a 9 part read-a-thon. Until then I'll have to curb the craving by reading the many extras and teasers.

Sigh, Cassie Clare, you kill me.

Cassandra Clare is an amazing author. The world she has created is so life-like and entertaining. I love it. I love how original her world is. I love the characters. I love how into the story I get because her writing is so impressive. But...

My Favorites so far are City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass and this one. I was not in love with City of Fallen Angels. It was a little bit of downer. I really liked this one and even can say loved this one. Towards the end it dragged a little but I loved the epilogue. I loved how in this book it reflected back on the previous books, especially City of Ashes. There was a lot of situations that were brought to life that needed to be brought to life.
