Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) in Q&A with Cassandra Clare

I have to admit I did love this book, BUT the last chapter or two was NOT how I wanted the story to go. I am just waiting on number 3 to hopefully make me happier! I don't see how Cassandra can turn it back around though...so I may be really depressed after 3?

Overall, another great read from Cassandra Clare. She does know how to spin a story. And, of course the sexy Magnus Bane, my favorite Warlock is very present in this book. So even if the storyline didn't totally go my way as long as Magnus ...more

The one book I had to break the -buy no books before Christmas- rule for was Clockwork Prince. Clockwork Angel was one of my fave books of 2010 and I'd been one of the many die hard anticipators of the follow up (which, by the way, was tortuously delayed by 4 months due to a car accident Cassie had, where she broke her wrist). So on the eve of it's release the hubby and I made a dinner time dash to Chapters then threw in some cupcakes and coffee so that we could make an evening of reading (yes, The one book I had to break the -buy no books before Christmas- rule for was Clockwork Prince. Clockwork Angel was one of my fave books of 2010 and I'd been one of the many die hard anticipators of the follow up (which, by the way, was tortuously delayed by 4 months due to a car accident Cassie had, where she broke her wrist). So on the eve of it's release the hubby and I made a dinner time dash to Chapters then threw in some cupcakes and coffee so that we could make an evening of reading (yes, yes, hardly a new thing for us, but you know, fancy new books you're super excited for deserve cupcakes and lattes).

Cassie did not disappoint. Clockwork Prince built on all the things I loved in Clockwork Angel while adding more depth with a handful of new characters, and some fantastic reveals.

Will, my favorite character of the series, had a wonderful story arc. His problems, why he's run away from everything and his general disdain for all those around him are explained, and how it ties him to Tessa and Jem is heartbreaking. Cassie has proven herself the queen of the fraught love affair, and although the triangle between these three seems impossibly tangled at the moment, have faith dear reader. She untangled Jace and Clary eventually, remember? Of course prior to her re-entangling them in City of Lost Souls, but ignore that for a moment. Tumblr and Twitter are absolutely drowning in angry/depressed readers bemoaning the Jem/Tessa/Will mess. It would be funny if it wasn't so endless. But I'm here to reassure all of you- Cassie is a formidable talent when it comes to writing, she will make it work just you wait and see. I'm not saying you'll like it, hell someone is going to have to die or be miserable, but it'll make some great story telling!

Now I have to confess, when Cassie said there was a scene that made her cry while writing it, I was worried. However, I turned out to be terribly cold hearted and did not shed a tear. Who knew?

As usual, Magnus is a character of mystery and intrigue. I love seeing him in this earlier time period and with a full other cast of characters. I can't wait to see what other small reveals about Magnus's history are yet to come in Clockwork Princess, but for now am relishing the small hints and glimpses Cassie's added through both Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince.

Two books in, The Infernal Devices books are proving to be an excellent spin off series to the Mortal Instruments. Strong books as a stand alone series but even more exciting when you throw in their various links to Jace, Izzy, Clary and Co. ...more

Wow what a great read. Cassandra Clare once again seizes to amaze me I think that is the way to say I love her writing. I loved Clockwork Prince even more than Clockwork Angel. I think it is because in the first one, Clockwork Angel we were being introduced to the characters and I didn't know them very well. However in this I really got to know the characters. I grew to love Jem more but I will always be TEAM WILL! He stole my heart from the very beginning, even though I like Tessa wanted to thr Wow what a great read. I think it is because in the first one, Clockwork Angel we were being introduced to the characters and I didn't know them very well. However in this I really got to know the characters. It was so great to know the reasons behind his behavior and why he was the way he was. I am glad that Henry finally woke up and was there for Charlotte more, even though he says that he was always aware. I loved the scenes between the two of them. I also love all the Will and Tessa parts. They have such an incredible strong chemistry, more so them she and Jem. There were a lot of Heart wrenching parts and a lot of sweet parts. I felt for Tessa through the whole thing,especially the trials she is faced and choices she has to make and will still have to make in Clockwork Princess. I loved Gideon Lightwood's character and how he is so not like his father, that was a breath of fresh air to see that. Throughout the book there was some oh my gosh did that really happen parts, and some NOOOOOOO!! Parts too! I felt bad for Jessie and how blinded she was by Nate's lies, but she still stood by his side. However part of me felt like she deserved what happened to her. I never trusted Benedict Lightwood and I am glad that my opinion never changed because he was skeezy to the end of the book. My favorite thing about the infernal devices is when I can connect the two series together, such as things that happen or characters that are mentioned in Clockwork Angel and Clockwork price, I then can identify them in the Mortal Instruments Series. Very neat. I loved the end, not a major Cliffhanger but the character who shows up to the institute I didn't see that one coming. However I really want Tessa and Will to be together at the end!!! ...more

WELL, YOU'RE GONNA WANNA READ THIS ONE, THEN!

I loved this book. The beginning all the way to the end. I savoured it. Like, seriously, every single little itty word in this book was actually savoured by me. And I finished it in a day. Don't ask me how this is physically possible. It's not. Unless, it's Cassandra Clare you're talking about!

Let's start with Tessa, our main lady. She is a very relatable character and very lovable, and I think o Okay, so you thought Clcokwork Angel was good. DID YOU?

I loved this book. The beginning all the way to the end. I savoured it. Like, seriously, every single little itty word in this book was actually savoured by me. And I finished it in a day. Don't ask me how this is physically possible. It's not. Unless, it's Cassandra Clare you're talking about!

Let's start with Tessa, our main lady. She is a very relatable character and very lovable, and I think one of the reasons for this is because she loves books, and lots of people that read obviously love book, too, and so (I know this is true in my case) we immediately understand what Tessa means when she says things like, 'Words have the power to change us.' Because we understand that they do, we understand her love of books.

Another reason why Tessa is so great, is because she's a levelheaded person, something we don't really get to see in YA. Sometimes I feel like heroines in YA are so vague and modern or badass and witty that they become distant and boring to us. SO you can see why someone like Tessa, a quiet, funny, charming and ostensibly very Victorian girl would be a refreshing change from other characters.

I also liked how she understood the bond between Will and Jem, and even though I am team Will (he just does it for me) I really liked Jem in this book, and found my heart skipping a beat (IT'S POSSIBLE!) when he kissed Tessa, or held her, or even when he said something charming and funny. I liked how Tessa gave Jem a chance to be his own person, instead of running off with Will the first chance she got, and actually fell in love with him. You can see how it's possible for Tessa to be torn between both boys, because they are both so different, but actually, intristically, really very caring and funny and charming (Will, more at the end than the beginning) in their hearts.

Will is probably the character in these two books so far that has changed so dramatically, so suddenly. By the end of the book, it felt like that hard edge around him that made people really hate him (or love him) had melted into something softer around the edges and for a good reason. He is, really, the tortured Jace in these books, but not, because they are quite different. I think the idea of his secret was totally unexpected and not really one that people could have guessed at all (hint, even Magnus was shocked! :O) and honestly, was probably the reason why so many people found this book to be so sad.

And JEM. AH, Jem. I love Jem. I really do. There's alot to say about Jem, but then again, not really, because honestly, he's not changed and never will. He's developed as a character and we are revealed more about him, his worries, his anger, his own heartbreak, which is no less painful than Tessa's or Will's, just better concealed, really. Jem broke my heart in this book, along with Will and Tessa, and I just really hope he doesn't die. He's a very good character, very sexy, and very powerfully written. I like how Cassandra portrays him as beautiful more than handsome, almost delicate, but strong on the inside, stronger than Will. Jem knows what he wants, and what he wants is Tessa, and he doesn't hesitate to act on it!

Charlotte and Henry were adorable in this book, too. And I mean, adorable! Loved their cute, quintessentially sweet romance paralleling to Tessa, Will and Jem's which was filled with a lot more angst, because it gave me hope, and, yeah, it made me smile, too. Loved it! And Jessamine was really as bitchy as she will ever be in this one, too, which I think was a bit of a surprise for the people that were rooting on her to be another Isabelle. But, as mean as she was, I still felt a little sorry for her, and almost hope that she does get her own happy ending.

I just have to comment on one spoiler which, as opposed to all the other ones that made me either cry, or scream in shock, made me laugh so hard. It's near the end. Probably the only spoiler that actually made Will happy! ;)

So, basically, if you don't read this great series, Will and I shall join forces and hunt you down. Prequel to the EXCELLENT Mortal Instruments series, and probably the longest review I have ever written! ...more

This book was beyond amazing! I laughed, I even cried and I bit my nails to the cuticle. lol I bought this book this Sunday when I met Cassandra Clare, and I haven't put it down until now. She is an amazing writer and I tip my wine glass in her honor!!!!! What a shocking and heart wrenching ending... bring on CLOCKWORK PRINCESS!!!!!!!! ...more
