City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) in Q&A with Cassandra Clare

Although I thought City of Bones would be a good book it did not reach it's full potential.

In the book I thought that the idea of magic and creatures such as demons and Forsaken was a good one but at times things would go wrong for no reason. The characters were out of reach and had little emotion and not commonly belivable emotion.

In the book Clary is confused with her relationship between Simon, her best friend, and Jace an exciting shadowhunter. Jace was very interesting My Immediate Response:

In the book Clary is confused with her relationship between Simon, her best friend, and Jace an exciting shadowhunter. Jace was very interesting and had a lot of personality but Simon was just there. There was almost nothing refering to his personality except he had had a crush on Clary for ten years. Clary's feelings aren't thougraly expressed and it doesn't make you clear on her view. In one part, Clary is kissing Jace only to be interupted by Simon, and it imediantly turns into a fight. Nobody's feelings are told at all and you can't see thier emotions clearly.

The part of the book that truely horrified me was the end when Clary finds out that Jace is her brother. It grossed me out so much and I can't seem to get the though"how do you write somthing like that?" off my mind. She kissed him. Twice. It is annoying me so much! Not only that but niether of them cared. Hello? You kissed your brother, stupid!

Also, Clary's mother is missing and the whole book is the search to find an rescue her but she does not say anyhting about her. The only thing we know is that she has red hair, is pretty, and paints.

I'm tempted to read the next book only to see if there's some twist so that you know Clary and Jace aren't really related or somthing.

It was the most diapointing book I've read in a long time.

One Month Afterwards(exactly!):
Oh my goodness, I want to read City of Ashes so badly! I can't focus on anything else! I want to know what is going to happen next and the though will not leave my brain. All I can think of is shadowhunters, Jace, Clary, Simon, Valentine, Luke, werewolf, vampire, demon etc, etc, etc. I must be very wishy-washy with my opinions but I can't stand this I have to go get the book at my library before it closes for Christmas! In a month my review has completly changed. The book was so good and in the end, I hated it and I;m still not sure why. I'm not a person who has to have a happy ending so I don't know why I reacted like that. I guess it just goes to show you that I'm crazy!
From the moment the characters were introduced, I've thought that Jace was a great character and Simon was SO annoying! I can not stand him. I still think the ending is horrible, but now in the good kind of horrible, the kind of horrible you want to read! I can't belive Clary and Jace are siblings and it and the thought haunts me, telling me that I must read City of Ashes and see what happens. I can't focus on anything else. I can't stand the thought that Clary and Jace are related and that Simon and Clary... (I read the first chapter on a bookstore's website) I do still wonder how Cassandra Clare thought of writing her book like this and how she decided that it would end like this but maybe it is just the grand scheme of things in her writing. I keep rambling on and on my repeating thoughts, but that is all I can think. I haven't been this excited about reading a book since I read the Twilight Saga for the first time. I hate waiting for books!
I just made a connection. If you consider the Twilight Saga and city of Bones as Equivalents than, Bella=Clary, Edward=Jace, Jacob=Simon. Both books also include vampires and werewolves. If you think about it, it does make sense. I wish I could stop being such a spaz. I'll go try and read my new book now, The Rangers Apprentice, but it doesn't hold my attention and I have to much on my mind. As I said shadowhunters, Jace, Clary, Simon, Valentine, Luke, werewolf, vampire, demon etc, etc, etc. I'll write more if I can't focus. ...more

This book is the first book in Cassandra Clare's Mortal instruments series. In this book, a girl named Clary has a normal life, but one day when she goes to a club with her best friend Simon, she wittness' something unimagineable. Soon Clary gets sucked into the world of Shadowhunters, Demons, Vampires, werewolves and so much more. City of Bones while witty and interesting, did not live up to my expectations. I saw through a major plot point halfway through the book which didn't leave the ending as compelling as other book endings were. The antagonist was completely evil, and while some series have all-evil villains, I was expecting more from Cassandra Clare in terms of shades of grey since she's so skilled at that. Hopefully we'll see more of that skill in the second book.

I started reading this book because of the great review given by Stephenie Meyer.

When I started to read the first several chapters I thought Stephenie must have been given a large amount of cash to write such a good review, but as I kept reading I found myself getting more and more swept away into the world of Shadowhunters.

I can now say that this book is fantastic and I now know exactly why Stephenie enjoyed it so much!

I have never read a book like this... It was absolutely amazing, could not stop reading it.
Fell in love with all the characters, who couldn't fall in love with Jace, he is just the definition of perfect!!!
The story was never dull, full of excitement and suspense. I have read this book a few times, it was that good. The entire series is awesome. ...more
