The facts they learned while trying to solve the "mystery" were totally forgotten at the end in order for one of the characters to have a complete change of heart. He would have never done what he did (Jace) if he had 1/2 a brain or 1 ounce of memory. Lame, Lame, LAME.

It was totally unfortunate that the ending was so horrible. I really enjoyed the book but cannot say that I liked i Umm... that ending didn't make a lick of sense to me. It was totally unfortunate that the ending was so horrible. I really enjoyed the book but cannot say that I liked it (hence the one star rating due to the hideous-ness of the ending. Without the ending it would have been 3 or 4 stars. But I'm not going to set up some other poor sucker to go through that nightmare!

My Discussion with somebody else regarding the ending:

HER: Remember Jace never knew his father was Valentine. All the time he was raised by him he thought it was Michael Wayland and he knew nothing about Jocelyn. He was raised very strictly, taught not to love, etc. Then he finds himself thrusted into this mess with Clary, falls in love for the first time and then he finds out his father is not dead as he thought and not only that, he wasn't who he thought he was. Valentinenever really tricked him into anything, when they met again he told him the whole truth and I believe that completely threw him for a loop. Especially finding out about Clary. I think at that moment he was so confused he could no longer distinguish between what was right or wrong, he did however know that being in love with his sister was wrong and therefore tried to push her away from that moment when she found him and Valentine. He is in this situation in which he doesn't understand who this new Valentine person is and who his father was back then, to him they're two different people.

But all these issues including the Hudge one are finally solved in City of Glass when all the skeletons in the closet come out and everything is revealed. At that moment I truly understood everything.

ME:
But Valentine didn't tell him the truth. He told him a version of the events some of which were true and some weren't and I am confident that Jace would not have taken Valentine's word for "truth" no matter how loopy he was from certain new (and debatable) news that he was given.

Regarding Jace being thrown for a loop: That's the part I couldn't choke down.. I don't buy it. I totally understand everything you said and I realize that's what the author was hoping the reader would get out of it but I definitely diverge from the plan right there.

NOW I'm thinking about reading book 2. SIGH! LOL ...more

Okay Mundanes!!This book is an amazing thrill ride from beginning to end. I read CITY OF BONES in one sitting. I loved it that much! I read this August 07 post Deathly Hallows withdrawl. Then I got the audio and listened to it at work. These are good books. Cassandra Clare was a hugh HP fan and wrote HP fanfic. Her original stuff is fabulous. Good sequel books like these always leave you wanting more. She has a blog started on her myspace page wanting people's feed back. There is also some awesome fan art depicting the characters. I wish they would consider this book for a movie. I think it would be very action packed and exc ...more

So far I like this. I started backwards, with the Clockwork Angel, and maybe because the protagonists are older in that one, this one felt a little childish in moments. And, ahem, I really dislike women protagonists who slap the men in stories. I mean, really! But otherwise, nice so far...
