I loved this second installment of the Mortal Instrument series. As with the first I loved the writing and the carefully woven threads of the story telling. I enjoyed being able to see things from Jace's perspective, as well as Clary's, this time around. It's hard to go back and forth between different character POVs, but Clare did a great job of it and I enjoyed it. City of Ashes is the second book in the mortal instruments series. It shows how Jace and Clary struggle with their relationship as brother and sister and also their psychotic father.
I find it very hard to pick a favorite out of the Mortal Instruments and I’ve found that City of Ashes unlike most middle novels in a series puts up a fair fight for favorite. There are plenty of bits in this novel that stand out and make it a good contender, e.g. the scenes in silent city, and the scene on the boat. ...more
