I know I'm way late to the party on this one. I've been reading about how amazing this book is for some time now but I just never sat down to read it. Honestly, I think I was a little afraid of it. From the description on the back of the book and what everyone was saying I knew it would be an emotional read. I just didn't know if I wanted to put myself through that. Now that I'm on the other side (having finished the book moments before starting this post) I can say that it was so totally worth

This is getting quite a bit of buzz in the YA community because (among other things), it's one of Catherine Hardwicke's next projects. She directed this movie, you may have heard of it...Twilight?
But there's also buzz because it's this amazing, heartbreaking book. And I'm just glad that I didn't read it right after The Book Thief, because I would not be able to handle two sad books in a row like that.

My daughter and I read this book together, and we both really liked it. It's definitely a tearjerker although I think maybe it hit a little closer to home for me considering I lost two close family members in an automobile accident in 1991. I read the book aloud to my daughter, that's how we do it when we read together because I'm the faster reader and there were some parts that my voice would get all wobbly because I was trying not to cry. Had I read this alone I would have been a mess. Now we'

This is another one of those books with a lot of hype but this was just ok for me. Yes it is a sad story and heartbreaking and odd because she’s like a ghost but her body is still alive. However it just didn’t grab me it was a bit boring at times, and there were times I was tempted to fast forward to the end just to see what she decides, yet when I did get to it, it was anti-climatic and not very satisfying. Not much more to say, except the narration by, Kirsten Potter was really good!

Although Mia doesn't have a perfect life, things are going well for her - she has a great family that love each other, a boyfriend that adores her, and a future filled with her dream of playing cello professionally. But a single moment on a snowy road blasts her whole life apart, and before she knows it she's left with only one decision - to stay and fight or to go and leave it all behind.

There is a word in the provided book summary that explains my feelings about this book exactly: heartache. As you can imagine, the topic of this novel is quite heavy.
Our author, Gayle Forman, writes so beautifully that you are able to read the main character's thoughts without turning away from sadness, as long as you are able to handle a little of the aforementioned heartache. We are simply bystanders (in more than one sense of the word) as the events in this book unfold - we are forced to go a ...more

Yes, I cried. And I started reading and had to force myself to stop. The way Forman handles the car accident in the beginning of the book is genius: it happens so abruptly, just like it would in real life and spins the entire book on its axis. This is one of those books that is written from the YA perspective, but it shouldn't be automatically shelved YA- it has mass appeal, I think. I waited so long to read it because I was afraid I would be depressed, and it is depressing, but a great read.
