This was at least my fourth time reading this book. This book has always been a source of inspiration. As the protagonist learns what art is, what it means to speak up, who she is and wants to be, and what her role was in a scarring situation the author includes tidbits of wisdom a reader can pick up. In this reading I found the piece of wisdom, no tree is perfect, flaws are what make something interesting powerful in many realms of my life. The author’s choice to fragment chapters is a wonderfu

The reason I finally picked up this book is because of banned book week. There has been so much recent controversy over this book and a few others that I had to read it in support of this week. And I am very glad that I did.
This is an AMAZING story. I honestly don't have any idea why someone would want to ban this book. Anderson has created a story around the very scary subject of rape, but the story isn't about the rape. It's about the person the victim is in the aftermath.

Speak was one of the books I was expecting the most, I couldn’t find it anywhere here in my country. I have to say the waiting was totally worth it, because is an excellent book.
Speak is the story about Melinda, a girl who was normal before the summer, but now, after a terrible thing that happen in a summer party, has changed, she does not speak, but that’s not the bad part, is that she does not speak about what happened that day.

I must say I liked Wintergirls better, but that said, I did feel that Anderson gave a very accurate portrait of a girl in distress. I truly enjoy Anderson's way of writing, it certainly sets her books apart from many available for teens. I enjoyed this book because as an adult I can relate to the character, a lot of young adult novels are "too young" for me to put myself in the characters shoes. I enjoyed the ending. So glad she found her voice and that she wasn't afraid to use it, also loved th

The story is about a girl named Miranda who ended up busting an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Starting her freshman year in high school, she becomes an outcast as her friends have all abandoned her. As she withdraws more and more inside herself there’s one event that she can’t get out of her head and it’s the reason why she called the cops that summer night.

Absolutely amazing. Pieces of it sound very familiar. Other pieces are weird. I can't believe that nobody would talk to her, and then again, I can. I remember there were people like that back in HS. I didn't really talk to them either, I didn't have a reason. One time I did strike up a conversation with one of the "outcasts", and she started telling me how many guys she blew. I backed off. One, TMI, and two, I couldn't believe that an "outcast" had gotten farther sexually than I had. Looking bac
