Ammetto di aver fatto di tutte le Bronte un fascio, perchè questo librom, anche con la sua netta dicotomia male=maschile e bene=femminile, mi è piaciuto molto. Scorre velocissimo e si può davvero, come qualcuno più qualificato di me ha scritto, considerare una delle più lunghe lettere della storia della letteratura.

This is a fascinating book in many ways. It offers insight into what life would have been like for a privileged woman trapped into an unhappy marriage in England in the middle of the 19th century, and how difficult it was to escape. But the structure of the book is hard to credit, with much of the narrative being Helen's diary copied out by Gilbert into a letter to his brother-in-law - how likely is that? Not very, I think.
