I read this for the first time as a teenager, a few years after it came out, and loved it. Reading it again now I feel just the same. It probably helps that I knew the territory, having grown up on the other side of the Berkshire Downs. But the pacing of the story is great, and it has a lot to say about leadership, power and tyranny. I think it does that better than 'Animal Farm' ... although I have not yet reread that one.
