So, for like the past decade, I made a wrong assumption about this book: based on its cover, title, and publisher summary, I thought this was going to be All Serious Business. But, no! It has a jaunty tone (a gently funny omniscient narrator!), and despite the fact it does cover a wide length of what human lives and humanity entails, it's full of kindness and understanding, and definitely comes down on the "care and taking care matters" end of the scale, and I was so eager to read each turn of t

The novel is told as a fable and it's definitely unique in that I think this is the first time I've read a novel that does this. I rather enjoyed the unique World created, although I understand that it's loosely based on a Senegalese folk tale. The story to me was initially gripping, but lost me a bit in the 2nd half.
