I enjoyed this more than I expected. It's been such a hit on Goodreads, I was suspicious, but when it was the Kindle Daily Deal I decided to go for it.

I loved the parts about Henrietta herself, her life and death in the early 1950s, and her elder daughter Elsie who ended up in a terrible asylum when Henrietta could no longer look after her. There was just the right amount of science for me, too - enough to understand what happened, without feeling swamped by facts.

i enjoyed learning what i learned in this book. if it hadn't have been for me reading this with my book club, i may not have read it so i am happy that we came across it. parts are sad, parts make you smile, parts may you think....great biography! ...more

Super interesting book. I just wish there was more about the family and not so much medical talk.

This is a new classic book for those interested in history. Alternating between the history of cell growth developement and the history and the lacks family was a great way to tell a story like this. The way research took off and helped so many people while the lacks family struggled to get by. The only draw back for me was that I wish there was more scientific depth to the the history of cell culture developement and advances in medicine. This book has something for everyone.
