I can't believe it took me so long to read this, being a person who once used a Commodore 64 and an Atari. Granted, I was more of a literature nerd than a video game one and let st of the Japanese references went over my head. Still.

I enjoyed this book. I am a child of the 80's so I loved all the 80's references. I played some of those games like Dungeons and Dragons and MUDS. My first computer was a Comodore 64. I really got into the story. For as technically advanced as that world was, it was still a dystopia. The people spent more time living in the OASIS world than the real world. I just finished rereading this book (I read it first 4 years ago) in preparation for the movie. I'm excited for the film even though it looks like there were a ton of changes made. At first I was annoyed by them, but after having just reread it, I do see why certain things were altered. This book was basically asking to be made into a movie, even the author admits that. I loved listening to this book. At it's heart, it's a pretty basic boy-meets-girl story, complete with the obstacle of a quest (save the world, of course) to be completed before they can be united. But it has so much fun in the telling of that story - in particular, I enjoy that the girl is his real competition for the quest - that it doesn't really matter. And I had so much fun listening that I didn't really realise it until it was over.

while it's not the best book ever written, it's probably one of the most fun I've ever listened to. wil Weaton is a great narrator and Cline captures nostalgia and my inner geek is totally obsessed right now. great fun!!
