Reminded me very much of Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. While Ishiguro's book is better, The Unit came first so I tried hard not to compare.

I was quickly hooked and while I could easily predict the plot from pretty early on (the seeds were clunkily planted) I was interested in how the world was built and how that impacted the characters psychologically. Depressing depressing depressing. If you are single over the age 40 don't read this without a good stiff drink nearby. ...more

I enjoyed it, but it felt very...short? Even though it was a decently sized book, it felt like the plot was a little empty, if that makes sense. But I did enjoy it. I also liked that the end felt more realistic than optimistic/corny. I like dismal dystopia endings. Weirdly.
