enjoyably good. reading cleeves's descriptions of vera is pretty entertaining, but also a bit sad as there is very little to flatter. but, that seems in keeping with the tv series portrayal. vera is foibles personified and also a bit sad/lonely. i've enjoyed the tv adaptation for years and it seems brenda blethyn really embraced the vera on the page, and brought all her quirks to life.
