This is more of a high-3 stars rather than a full 4 star read, but I liked it enough to give it the bump. It took me a while to get through this one, and I'm not really sure why. The world Novik has built is rich and detailed, but it never fully sucked me in.

In the beginning of this novel, I definitely got hints of Beauty and the Beast, but with enough differences to keep things interesting. It pretty quickly veers away from retelling territory into its own unique and very detailed plot. I like ...more

Beautiful and evocative, with a kick-ass heroine who won't take no for an answer.

Did it have some issues? Yes - the development of the relationship at the centre of the book was a bit abrupt. Did I still love it very much and do I still think that this is a definite reread in the future? Oh yes I do. I loved every minute I spent with it. ...more
