"Lessons in Chemistry" is a humorous book with a serious message about sexism and following your dreams. Elizabeth Zott is a research chemist in the early 1960s when it was groundbreaking for women to work in the sciences. She has a boss who steals her work, and treats her like a lab tech.

Eventually Elizabeth finds she's a single mother without a job, and needs to put food on the table. She takes a job on a TV cooking show, but presents it on her terms, encouraging women to pursue their interest

I read this book in one session, with a short dinner break because it certainly has a quick pace and is easy to read. The premise, however, seemed to me much better than the unfolding, which at one point almost turned into a fairy tale, complete with thinking dogs, superpowered children and incredible coincidences. For goodness sake it makes all the fuss for the purposes of women's empowerment and STEM and whatnot, but I was also a bit disappointed in it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was quirky, unexpected, over the top, random, funny, serious, weird, relatable but not in an obvious way… There was a lot to this book. I could see the potential of delving into the themes and forming negative opinions of the book. However if you read it for entertainment and enjoyment, I thought it hit the mark. I was thoroughly entertained!

Nearly everyone loved this book. We all enjoyed the humor. Marge and I both felt it was amusing, but could have been more than that, considering the social issues she was raising. But most of our book club loved this book.

There's a lot of hype surrounding this book and people, it's sooo worth it! At least it was for me.

I was hooked right from the get go and I loved the sarcasm, hilarity, touching moments - just all of it. Elizabeth is the kind of women all women should strive to be whether it's in the 60's or 2020's - some things haven't changed so much but some things have.

With a great supporting cast of characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I'd even give it a 4.5 stars here if I could, almost a 5.
