Luis Alberto Urrea builds a powerful story around two young women who join the American Red Cross to serve on a Club Mobile during WWII. Club Mobiles were trucks with a kitchen built on the chassis to serve coffee, donuts and support to GIs and airmen during the war oftentimes following them to the front lines.
Urrea’s pen paints images of Europe both pretty and horrific.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

Wow, I just couldn't stop. This was so engaging that I just needed to keep going and find out what happens at the end. You wonder how much these ladies did/saw/got involved in. While based on some historical events and inspired by real people, this book is fiction.

The book is primarily told from 2 perspectives, Irene and Dorothy who are a team (supposed to be a team of 3 but it's mostly just them two). They came from different backgrounds but found in each other, sisters. As
