"Young Jane Young" is a story of second chances that brings back memories of the Monica Lewinsky/Bill Clinton scandal. A 20-year-old congressional intern, Aviva, becomes involved with an older, married congressman. They are meeting in secret, but the media is alerted when someone hits the congressman's car. Aviva had a personal anonymous online blog that revealed the details of their relationship. In the digital age, it quickly went viral.

This book is the choice for a new in-person bookclub I'm joining. I like Gabrielle Zevin--I've read several of her other books. It helps that she's approximately my age and seems to have grown up in a background that isn't exactly mine, but is inherently familiar to me. So I find her references and dialogues and inflections to be mostly spot on. If you haven't read Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, that's a better and more literary novel. Aviva Grossman is in college and an intern for Congressman Levin. The two have an affair and when it's discovered Aviva is the one criticized by the media and she's unable to find a job while the congressman keeps his job. The book focuses on the lives of Aviva, her mother and the congressman's wife Embeth. It's an easy read but also brings up important issues about how females are treated.
