This was a trip in several ways. One was a trip to Sri Lanka in the 90’s. A country that has never had much peace. Another way is that the book is told in the second person, very unusual and slightly mind-bending. AND the main character is dead and the book explores the possibilities of life beyond the grave (although Maali doesn’t have one— a grave, that is). There is just enough humor to keep this from being overwhelmingly sad.
