I really like the style of Ali Smith. Wonderful writing, interesting characters and ideas. I understand some people might not really like it. It is no novel that follows conservative lines, but rather a meandering collection of connected ideas. For me it works perfectely and I like be submerged in Ali Smith’s interesting world.

A few days ago, as I continued my seemingly never-ending read of The Odyssey, I wondered why it was so hard for me to finish. I realized that long-form poetry is difficult for me because it makes me slow down and pay just as much attention to the meter as the words. In small bites I love poetry but when it gets to hundreds of pages, the forced leisurely pace can be frustrating or soporific for me.

Wonderfully insightful and so carefully crafted.
It left me thinking about how much of what we see when we look at art or the lives of others is affected by our own experience and how it all folds back on itself. It can be read in one of two ways. I read 'eyes' first, then 'camera', & am sure that the book is a completely different reading experience read the other way around.
