There are a few sub-genres that I am a sucker for, and one of them is “The House is a Character.”
I should see if there is a shelf for that... anyway.
This is a dreamy, magical book where not much happens. I guess there’s sort of a mystery - what exactly is the House, who is the Other, who even is Piranesi? But that’s not really what drives the book.
I found Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell to be a bit too dry and musty, despite the premise being catnip to me. This has a similar slow and quiet style, ...more

Engaging and--for all its ambiguities and soft blurs of meaningfulness--vivid. I loved the descriptions of the statues and often felt like I was there in the House. (view spoiler) I found this satisfyingly cohesive, even if there's a limit to my love for (view spoiler) , and I liked the fantasy aspect

DNF at 25% - I just didn't see where this was going and couldn't go along with the stream of consciousness anymore.
