I love Murderbot.

This is the sweetest and funniest book about a killer robot you’re likely to ever find. It’s got a bit of everything in such a short book.

I can’t wait to read the next one. Nothing like a TV watching introverted death robot.

In addition to being an interesting look at what it means to be human, it’s an interesting look at gender. I admit, I projected a bit of female onto it, and it’s interesting to look at why. Mostly because if I was going to ship anybody it would be Murderbo

Since I can't give half stars, giving it 3 though this is a strong 3.5 for me. I think maybe it wasn't long enough for me to get into so I wasn't head over heels in love with it but bit, I sure do want to know what's going to happen to MurderBot so luckily Book 2 is coming my way soon. ...more

Shelves: novella
A character centered novel - where the main character is a SecUnit who hacked his government issued module, so that he no longer has to receive directive from them. He refers to himself as Murderbot and loves to watch TV ... while of course, protecting himself and his human charges from harm.

Let's say 2.5 stars. I was looking for something fairly light and quick, and this audiobook was only 3 hours long, so it fit the bill. I believe that if it was longer than 3 hours I wouldn't have finished it. I found this to be more of an upper middle grade to YA type of story. Simply told, the storyline was somewhat repetitive and one that's been told or seen on the screen many times. Too predictable to me and I more than likely will not continue with the series. The narrator detracted from my ...more

Sci-fi and fantasy can be tough to pull off in novella form, but All Systems Red does it perfectly! The world has just enough meat on it to feel substantial without too much in-depth world building, the characters are well established, and Murderbot makes for a very fun main character to follow. Really enjoyed this first book and look forward to diving into the rest of the series!

Murderbot just wants to watch soap operas and keep her humans alive. Too bad someone throws a wrench in that plan.
