Murderbot is a Security Unit assigned to protect a small scientific group surveying a planet. Murderbot has hacked its governor unit so it is independent. Anomalies start happening that put the crew in danger and despite its desire to mainly watch soap operas Murderbot ends up caring about the team it is protecting. This book was fun, lots of dry humor, while keeping you on the edge of your seat. I'll definitely be continuing this series. ...more

This story all takes place from the point of view of a bot, part human, part mechanical. It is controlled by programming. Its job is security for planetary exploration teams. It has hacked into its control program and makes some unusual choices in protecting its humans. The story is fast-paced and leaves much of the world-building to come, hopefully, in the following series.

Anyone who likes science fiction at all should read this. ...more
