The Vanishing Half has two parts, which means the first half of the book is wonderful, well written and totally engaging. I couldn't put it down. The second half of the book is, well, a let down. The writing continues to be excellent, and the characters, interesting. The problem for me was, it didn't make sense; it seemed incongruous with the premise. Most of us liked this book. We discussed the themes of identity, race, and of keeping secrets. The characters were well-developed, and the plot was engaging.
