The only reason I picked this book up is because it's the only one (of a selection of a group read for a challenge) that is available on my library's borrowbox app. It is only 5+ hours and the cover looks rather appealing. It's rare to get a collection that's this strong from start to finish, but with Julia Armfield's stunning prose, there's not a bad story in the bunch. My favourites were Stop Your Women's Ears with Wax (I'm a sucker for any kind of speculative story surrounding bands and music) and Granite, but I really appreciated every story in this collection.

I loved this collection of short stories--I can't wait for this promising author's debut novel to be written. The stories are full of horrific fantastical elements, but also full of heart. There are friendships, breakups, hookups, and transformations (both real and fantasy). These stories remind me of the short stories of Aimee Bender and Kelly Link, but perhaps trending more toward horror than either of those authors.
