this review is for the audiobook edition, narrated by aoife mcmahon.

mcmahon is a terrific narrator, and her vocal skills were well-suited to this novel. this is my first outing with jess kidd's writing, and i found the experiencing an interesting exercise. this is a funny duck of a story - going into it, i knew there were going to be peculiarities or quirks, and that definitely proved to be the case. kidd's imagination is entertainingly out there, and i found my weird sense of humour meshed with ...more

I guess Jess Kidd just really isn't for me. It is not that she isn't such a lovely writer, I do enjoy her writing and her characters are excellent - always quirky and wonderful. There just seems to be that something that doesn't quite grab me. I'm thinking her next won't be something I rush out and read - although I would probably read it. That sounds all very wishy-washy on my part doesn't it? There's just something about her books that just miss the mark for me for some reason.
