I loved the fresh yet grounding perspective this book brings dispel to the well-trodden mythology of Jack the Ripper. The man and his mystery are jettisoned here completely. In his place, the author brings forward his five female victims and provides a full life story for each, or at least as much as can be gleaned from historical records -- which, it turns out, is much more than I would have expected -- and how each woman found herself ultimately on the streets of Whitechapel to begin with.
