I am going to confess that I didn't read this book until 1993, after I'd seen the movie. I couldn't handle horror movies or scary books at the time, but Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and a surprisingly good Tom Cruise really got my attention.
Now I'm a bona fide fan. I'm working toward reading everything Rice has written, and now I enjoy many other authors who write about vampires.

This is a tale more philosophical than active. While Rice has a rich mythology to draw from, she seems rather too preoccupied with the nature of the vampire vs. the nature of humanity. Is her protagonist damned at the start, or must he earn it?

An enjoyable read that started a trend that imho ultimately degenerated into romance novels with a supernatural theme. In any event - this was a good one.

This book just didn't hold my interest, I kept thinking that the main character was too effeminate--in the sense that I felt he really was a bit too sympathetic for my taste. I've never seen the movie either, and I'm pretty sure I won't be wasting my time with this story again...or any of the rest of this series; interestingly enough, I do like several of Rice's other books.

I have started this book about a million times and never got very far. This time, I tried the audio book and got further than before, but I just can't do it. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm giving up for good this time.

I must admit I'm not an Ann Rice fan.
