I can't believe that it took me so long to read this book. The size has always been the issue but I realised now, that it shouldn't be. The language was pretty easy for a classic. So, if this is what stops you from reading it, don't let it stop you any longer!

I found the epistoraly-like narrative slightly disconcerting; the changes in narrators with their own styles of writing. However, other than a slightly unbelievable twist near the end, I thorough enjoyed the story for its genre.

Sublime. Amazing characters, fantastic plot, great prose. A must read for anyone even remotely interested in Victorian literature.

I think my favorite part was the depth of character development throughout the book. I vacillated between loving and hating Count Fosco; I found myself drawn to Marian; Walter could come to my rescue any time.

I read this book because it was the pick for June by The Next Best Book Club and was really uncertain I would like it. It was a little difficult for me to get into at first as it seemed a bit rambling as far as describing places and people. First off, this book started slow. Halfway in it got better. I really liked the story parts about Laura Farley and William Hartright. I am glad they had a happy ending. So based on that it gets 4 stars. I didn't care for Laura's first husband at all. It was also a long book that could have had a couple hundred pages cut. The many points of view were confusing. There were too many voices telling the story. ...more

The problems I had with The Moonstone are almost completely gone here. It's a fascinating, mostly unpredictable and mostly believable mystery. Marian is a wonderful character. The strange way of separating love and sex at that time (and now?) is on full display, along with the way class plays into it. ...more
