What Members Thought
My first reaction upon completing this book is that it is just an average read and deserves only three stars. But I've had a full day to think about it, and the thoughts keep coming unbidden. I first thought perhaps the book was misnamed, that it should be "Those Who Are Saved". At first I thought this was Anna's story, that Trudy's story was extraneous. I think I was wrong about that. A few years back, I visited the town in Pennsylvania where the German ancestors of my family first settled and where their German last name was changed to a more Americanized version because of the difficulties of being German in America after WWII. I have been interested in the Holocaust and read a lot about it over the years, both non fiction and historical fiction, but I have not read as much about the German people living through the war.
