A bit slow to start with and I think the most intriguing mystery is actually about WHO the Athenian, Hermes Diaktoros, is. And the end, I'm still a little bit confused... He's like an avenging angel (Hermes ---> messenger of the gods) so justice was served but not in any conventional way. However, in addition to this, he also served up kindness and hope; a little chance at redeeming oneself. He doesn't fit the anti-hero definition but he definitely has his own style of justice.

While the people on the small Greek island of Thiminos are quick to dismiss the death of a young woman as an accident, the stranger from Athens who shows up seems intent on getting to the bottom of the matter. He uncovers layers of actions that involve almost all of the people who knew her, and like Nemesis, he sets appropriate punishments.
It took me a little while to get into this book, but I did enjoy it. I found myself comparing Hermes Diaktoros to Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.

I won this as a first reads. It was a slow read for me. I enjoyed the cultural references throughout the book. The way that each chapter was from a different perspective made it a bit difficult to follow. It look about a paragraph each chapter to figure out who was then telling the story. The resolutions to each of the storylines at the end of the book all seemed a bit odd to me as well.
