The first in an ultra-cosy mystery series set in Grantchester, on the edge of Cambridge, which was also the setting of Rupert Brooke's 1912 poem that ends "Stands the Church clock at ten to three? And is there honey still for tea?" The amateur sleuth here is the local vicar, Sidney Chambers, a Canon although still only in his thirties. He's single and there are various claims on his heart running as a thread through the stories - because yes these are short stories, not a novel.

Well, I must say it’s another case of disappointment due to misplaced expectation… This book contained about half a dozen short mystery stories all featuring everyone’s friend, Canon Sidney Chambers. To begin with, I didn’t mind the character of Chambers as it really is useful when you’re somebody everyone welcomes & feels able to unburden oneself to however he kind of grate on me after a few stories.
