I knew this would be a 5-star listen from my very first minutes with it. I walked with Trevor and spent most of that time grinning from ear to ear and laughing out loud. I must have looked ridiculous to passers-by! I learned an immense amount from him as well, and while I spent the majority of time laughing and smiling, the final two-hours are heartbreaking to hear but in the end, so uplifting and heartwarming from hearing again how incredible his mother is, how immensely lucky she was to have n ...more

The life of a South African child, with a black mom and a white dad, before apartheid fell. 4.5 Stars for me. I loved this book and everything it stands for. Trevor Noah's story is interesting and entertaining and informative. I knocked off 1/2 a star because there were parts that were repetitive. It could have been edited a bit tighter but all in all a great read! ...more

Holy crap, Trevor Noah had one hell of a life before he became the host of the Daily Show. This is worth reading, just or gain some insight on a very difficult set of circumstances and how people deal with them and try to rise above. I’ve heard the audiobook is amazing but sadly it’s not available on Overdrive.

Also, I wish The Daily Show would return to Hulu. We used to watch them all but I don’t like the Comedy Central app and so now we don’t bother. Which is too bad because I really enjoy it.

4.0/5.0 - This books started out as a 5.0 for the first half, the middle really dragged, the ending was good, so a 4 star all in all. This was a book that I had to stop and take notes on throughout. I am ashamed to say I knew nothing about apartheid before reading this, and just have the most basic understanding now. One way to describe it is institutionalized racism within a police state, where blacks are forced to live in ghettos, and language is used as a barrier. By that I mean, each tribe ( ...more
