Emotional abuse is at the heart of this book. Emotional abuse and physical abuse by a controlling husband and father, and all the ways that his family bends to fit his needs (until they don't).
The story is extremely compelling to me, because it rings so true with some of my own experiences. None of the specifics match, but at the core it is the same. This type of pain transcends circumstance; transcends culture and cause.

The tragic story of a Nigerian family with a father obsessed by God, the fantastic aunt and people around them, and the main character trying to find a reason for it all. An unforgettable story written by one of my favorite author so far.
