People have complained that a lot of this book is an essay on race with characters thrown in. That's not an unfair assessment, but I thought the essay on race was quite interesting and I fell in love with these characters. I know very little about Nigerian immigrants. I haven't read many of their stories. This book captures the perspective of a person moving to the United States from Nigeria and experiencing the US from that outsider's perspective. It was just way too long for not a lot to happen. Had it been shorter I would have given it a better rating.
