I liked this one! For me Stephen King had lost it. Going back to the 70's I read “Carrie” when it first came out – thought it was ….ok. Then came “Salem's Lot” and I loved it. From that point I eagerly read every Stephen King book through “It” and from that point lost interest. “It” , “The Tommyknockers” and subsequent books started to boor me. I would lose interest. I wondered if it was me or him. I wanted to like him. I have family in Bangor Maine that would tell me what a great guy he is. How

I love love love this book! I’ve only read a handful of Stephen King’s books as horror isn’t my cup of tea so I’ve primarily read his fantasy works plus a few of the ‘horror’ stories (horror in quotation as I try to pick ones that aren’t too scary for me). What’s to love about 11.22.63? Firstly, it’s time travel –my most favourite kind of story! I love the setting (late 50s / early 60s in US) and I just adore the many possibilities, the uncertainties, and cause & effect etc. There are so much to

I haven't read a King book in many years. After reading this one, I will definitely have to go back and catch up.
What if you could go back and change the past? Would you do it? What if by doing so, you changed everything...the good and the bad?
The premise of the story involved Jake Epping/George Amberson traveling back in time to prevent the assassination of JFK from happening. During his travel, he prevents some other horrible things as well...but by doing so, he changed everyone's life, includ ...more

Really clever time travel mechanism and surprisingly powerful romance and characters are what make this book work. The actual political history and Kennedy assassination, which was the draw to pick up the book, turned out to be rather dry and boring. The protagonist doesn't really interact with Oswald at all and most of the book tracks his life from 1958 to 1963 with only a short bit dedicated to the actual assassination. Still, highly enjoyable and solid plotting to keep the book moving forward

This is definitely not science fiction, even with the time travel element. It straddles the line between Fiction and Historical Fiction. Either way so far it is well written and engaging.
Personal note (aka things to find out)
"bad squeeze" [drink]- bad homemade hooch or moonshine?
Is this a regional colloquialism that is escaping me?
Tom below has explained what "squeeze" is I'll let you read his note if your interested in knowing.

Jake Epping is told by his friend Al Templeton about a hole to the past that exists in Al's restaurant. Specifically the hole always leads to a date in 1958 and every time Al uses it he's only gone from the present for 2 minutes. Al's dying and he wants Jake to use the hole to go back in the past and prevent JFK's assassination on 11/22/63. This book is more a love story combined with time travel with really no horror in it. I loved the story of Jake and Sadie and the ending was terrific. Readin

I enjoyed this a lot, despite it being too heavy to carry on the train with me! I found myself in the shower ruminating about the implications of time travel in this manner, really getting into serious debates with myself, before realizing it was a moot point, not being real and all. And I think any time an author gets me that caught up in their world, it's a good book.
